50 Stunning Kitchen Sink Ideas For Upgrade Your Kitchens

Posted on

Everybody going into a build or home renovation has ideas about main design aspects. Colours, carpets and paint are always at the forefront of the mind – but it seems like everything else falls behind! A lot of people find themselves overwhelmed when they realise just how many other little decisions need to be made during the building process.

If you’re looking for ideas in the kitchen, one of the most commonly renovated and important rooms in the house, it’s a good idea to start with the basics. Tiling is important and so are the countertops, but how could we forget about one of the room’s focal points: the kitchen sink?

Why the Sink?

The kitchen sink defines everything about the room. It might not seem like much when you’re thinking about the whole build, but it’s one of the first things that people notice when they walk into the room and it changes how everything from the counters to the colour of the walls fit together.

What is there to Decide?

Plenty! Material, size, number of basins, faucet shape, taps, mounting – there is so much to decide when you get a kitchen sink installed.

Metals are a common choice for sink materials, but composite sinks made from granite and quartz can do an absolutely wonderful job of matching countertop materials. Even with metal sinks there is plenty to choose from. Stainless steel looks stunning and suits most decors while offering all of the durability you need. Cast-iron sinks are available in a number of colours and are easy to clean and maintain. Other metals like copper are also good choices, but tend to be a lot more expensive than more standard options.

If you are building new then you will have the option to choose your own sized sink but, unfortunately, if you’re just renovating then it’s likely you are after a sink to fit an already built hole. This can be a little limiting at times so its best you measure the for size before you start looking.

Do I Want a Double Basin?

Want? How about need! A double basin is an absolute lifesaver and can make things a lot easier when you have dishes piling up and food scraps to go in the garbage disposal (if your plumbing allows it). Double basins allow double the utility and while some people like the idea of a single, larger basin for pots and pans, a double basin really should be high on your list of considerations.
